We are very saddened to hear that Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt plans to abolish the UK Film Council. However, it’s reassuring to see that 28,000+ Facebook members share our thoughts.
We are delighted to announce that Shop is responsible for the “official” campaign website opposing the decision. It’s easily the quickest turn-around on a website we’ve ever done! The result can be found at www.savethefilmcouncil.co.uk and goes hand in hand with the Facebook group started by Oliver Powell on Monday. So get yourself on the site and follow the simple steps to help save what’s become an integral part of British cinema.
Regenerate Clothing (who’s headquarters are currently based at Shop) will be exhibiting their new range next month at the Berlin Fashion Week. For more information please visit http://thekey.to/ . The above video was produced by Fourmost Films (who are also based at Shop).
Shop’s Ajay Stevenson is running a series of acoustic sessions every Thursday evening at The Bodega Social Club from 7 until 10pm. You can see it and join up at www.creativenotts.org. You can also find out more on Facebook.
Warp Films, the company that bought you This is England and Four Lions are taking over Shop for a night on the 31st July to screen their latest film Trash Humpers by Harmony Korine. The film will be screened across different rooms in Shop on various piles of old, rusty TV sets. White Lightning (or equivalent) and Tennents Super will be the special (classy) drinks for the evening.
Doors open at 7:30pm with the very generous entrance fee of £4 (free for Shop members). BOOK YOUR TICKETS HERE.
Since May 2010, Mimm clothing has found a permanent base in the ground floor of Shop’s Canning Circus headquarters. Thanks to this, our retail space is now open seven days a week. To coincide with the permanent opening times, Shop would like to offer one artist (or collective) per month to hang their work alongside Mimm’s stock.
We are doing this to keep Shop looking fresh and exciting and it gives both established and up and coming artists the opportunity to display their work in a place that gets hundreds of people walk and drive past it on a daily basis. Successful applicants will get to take over the Shop window, our window ledge and one wall of the Shop.
How much will it cost?
Free. Shop will take a negotiable mark up on all items sold.
Rules
All artists must apply in advance with a proposal and examples of their work. This will be reviewed by the Shop Team and the artist will notified if successful in due course. All artwork will be displayed for just under one one month, precise dates and time frames will be agreed closer to the time. Any artwork that hasn’t been sold by the end of this period will need to be collected before the next artist comes in to hang the next instalment of work.
Helpful Hints
Shop is more likely to accept your work if we consider it will fit within our branding guidelines. In a nutshell; if it can be presented in a slick, professional manner that will not be too obtrusive in the retail environment. We will also lean towards artwork that can be installed in a relatively short amount of time; preferably no more more than a couple of hours. However, feel free to run us by your ideas, however crazy they may seem.
One more thing
We can facilitate a small, informal gathering for the opening night of your mini exhibition should you require this.
To apply to become a Shop Guest please email info@viewtheshop.co.uk with your proposal. Please put “Shop Guest” somewhere in the email title.
With more than a dash of humour and a swathe of class, this painting marries Brian Clough’s brooding, self-confident smirk with Lord Byron’s stylish, suave stance. After all, if ever there was a man that bought poetry to football, it was Brian Clough and we’re sure Byron would’ve appreciated that.
